About

I am a British man, living in Vienna, Austria. I paint, not only because I love it, but also because it is an essential part of the way I exist. I experience almost everything in life with an associated image in my mind. I have a constant stream of images when I am thinking, talking, speaking, listening etc. Therefore, to be able to express myself visually is to use art as a filter for life - it shows the chaos and colour that moves organically within me.
The Viennese art movement known as Fantastic Realism has had a profound impact on me, yet my work also has elements of surrealism, expressionism and art nouveau.; however, these are not conscious components or qualities.
I am by no means a purist - I will use the materials, surfaces and media I have at hand. I mix media, layering acrylic, oil, oil pastel, ink, tippex, coffee, chalk, watercolour and spray paint…whatever gets the job done. I paint on anything - not just on canvas, but wooden panels, old IKEA cupboard doors and even piece of a dismantled walnut wardrobe in the case of the Trumpfish (see works).
For years, I have created a collection of works as a form of escapism into my head - something I have done since I was a small child . It was always my personal solace, and now I feel ready to put it on display.
